What to check if you are not receiving Timeline notifications toggle

If you are not receiving Timeline notifications, please refer to this article regarding Timeline notification settings.
 

If you are unable to resolve your issue after checking the above article, please try these basic steps.

General solutions toggle
If you are having issues with LINE, first please try the following:

• Close all running apps.
• Restart your device and the app.
• Update LINE to the latest version.

Additionally, issues may occur if you do not use LINE with the recommended system specifications. Please see here for the recommended system specifications.
Note: We do not offer support for devices that are jailbroken or rooted.

If you experience network errors or images do not appear properly, please try the following:

• Delete any unnecessary apps and data, and clear the cache on your device.
• Check if your network connection has any restrictions or filtering services in place.
• Clear the LINE app's cache.

To clear the LINE app's cache:
1. From the main menu tap More > Settings.
2. Tap Chats > Delete data.
3. Check the box next to Cached data > tap Delete selected data.

Timeline Crashes

Timeline crashes toggle
If the app crashes when you try to view the Timeline, there may be Unicode characters on it. Please register an email address to your account and check for any Unicode characters on the PC version of LINE using the following articles.

Please log in using the email address and password you registered to your LINE account.

If you find a post with the Unicode characters, please block the friend who posted it and see if it solves the issue.

If the above does not solve the issue, please try the basic steps.

Issues with Posts

Issues with Posts

Posts by specific friends not showing on Timeline toggle
Posts will not be displayed in the following cases.
- The friend is added to your Timeline Hidden List, or was hidden at some point in the past.
- The friend has blocked you, or has blocked you at some point in the past.
- The friend has set the post’s privacy settings to Only Me.

Once you add someone to your Timeline Hidden List, all of their posts will be hidden from your Timeline.

Even if you remove the friend from the list by going to Settings > Timeline > Timeline Hidden List and tapping Show next to their name, hidden Timeline posts will not be unhidden. You will only be able to see new posts created after the friend was removed from the list.

Posts by all friends not showing on Timeline toggle
- If You Change to a New Device Without Carrying Over Your Account
Timeline posts on your old account are not displayed on your new account. Even if you add your friends again, posts that have disappeared from your Timeline will not be restored. You can still view older posts on your friends’ Homes.

- If New Posts by Friends are Not Showing
Please tell your friend to check their privacy settings.

Issues with Images

Timeline or home images not showing toggle
If images are not showing, please try the following.
1. Check the storage space left on your device and SD card.
2. If it is a sticker that you are having issues with, try redownloading it using the steps below.

1. Tap My Stickers below.
2. Select the sticker set you are having issues with, then Remove > OK.
3. Tap Settings below.
4. Go to Stickers > Purchase History.
5. Select the sticker set and tap Download.

Post Settings

What can be posted on Timeline? toggle
You can post the following on Timeline:

• Text: Up to 10,000 characters per post.
• Photos and videos: Up to 20 per post.
• Regular stickers: Up to 20 per post.
• Sound, animated, and pop-up stickers: Up to 1 per post.
Note: These can't be posted with regular stickers.
• URLs and locations: Up to 1 each per post.

Timeline posts will also appear on your Home, and will be visible to your friends based on your Timeline privacy settings. If you don't want a post to be seen, you can limit the audience from the privacy settings before sharing it on your Timeline.

Making a Timeline post toggle
To make a post on your Timeline, please refer to either of the following methods:

• From your Home or Timeline, tap the pencil icon or Post.

• From the top of the Timeline page, tap What's New? or the sticker, camera, or link icons.

Notifications for Likes and comments on your posts toggle
When someone Likes or comments on your post, a number will appear on the bell icon at the top of your Timeline. If you turn on Timeline notifications, you will also receive alerts on your smartphone’s notification screen.

Tap the comment you want to reply to, enter your reply, then tap Send.

Liking and commenting on Timeline and Home posts toggle
To like a post or leave a comment, please refer to the following steps:

1. Go to the Timeline tab.
2. Tap Like or Comment at the bottom of the post.

Commenting on a post
Share what you think about a post using text and stickers. To delete a comment, slide it to the left until Delete appears.

Liking a post
Choose from one of six expressive stickers featuring LINE characters to share your reaction to a post.

Note: Likes cannot be deleted.

If you like a public post, it will be shared with your friends on their Timelines.

Editing and updating Timeline posts toggle
To edit a Timeline or Home post, please refer to the steps below:

1. Tap the V or menu icon at the top right of the post you wish to edit.
2. Tap Edit.
3. After editing or updating the post, tap Post at the top right of the screen.

If you are using a version of LINE earlier than 6.6, you will not be able to edit or update an existing post with anything except for text.

Maximum number of posts on Timeline toggle
Only a certain number of posts are shown on the Timeline. If you want to see all of a friend’s posts, please go to their Home.

Using hashtags toggle
Adding the # symbol in front of text (e.g. #LINE) when you make a post will create a hashtag.

When you tap a hashtag, you'll be able to view all posts that include the same hashtag.

Please note Public posts with hashtags can be searched for and viewed by users other than your friends.

Try using hashtags when you want to share your posts with a larger audience.

Tagging friends toggle
You can tag a friend by adding the @ symbol in front of their name (e.g. @Brown) when you make a post.

When you tag a friend, be sure to check the post's Privacy settings.
Note: If the post is not shared with them, they will be unable to view the relevant post.

When the post is completed, the friends you tagged will be notified.

How to set a post to automatically delete itself toggle
You can choose your desired time to have a post automatically delete itself.

To set an auto-delete time, please refer to the following steps:

1. Enter the details for your post.
2. Tap "..." > Timer.
3. Choose the time you want the post to be deleted, then tap Post.

Please be aware that any Likes or comments on this post will also be deleted at the same time.

Who can participate in a relay? toggle
You can set which friends can participate in a relay.

If you want to share with all of your friends, just choose Friends under Who can join. You can also share a relay with close friends only by choosing a group or custom list of friends.

Setting relay notifications toggle
When you start a relay you can choose to send notifications to friends to join.

You can change the settings to notify friends by tapping the person icon on the top of the relay creation screen.

About birthday posts toggle
If it's you or your friend’s birthday, you'll be able to send or receive a message in a special birthday card post.

You’ll have 48 hours to send your friend a birthday card once the post appears.
Note: Cards that were sent within the 48 hour period can be viewed at any time.

Your birthday post won't appear if you have the Show my birthday setting turned OFF.

 

To turn on this setting: 

1. Tap More > Settings.

2. Tap Profile > Birthday.

3. Turn ON Show my birthday.

Display and Privacy Settings

Hiding and sharing a post toggle
If you wish to hide a Home or Timeline post, please refer to either of the following steps:
 
Hiding a post for LINE versions 6.6 and later
1. On the post's editing screen, tap Friends (Public, or Only Me) at the top of the screen.
2. From the Privacy settings screen, tap the arrow icon next to Friends.
3. To limit who can view your posts, tap Restrict next to the relevant friends' name.
4. Tap Save at the top right of the screen.
 
If you select Only Me from the privacy settings, no one but you will be able to view the relevant post.
 
Hiding posts from settings
1. Go to More > Settings > Timeline > Share settings.
2. To limit who can view your posts, tap Restrict next to the relevant friends' name.
3. Tap Save at the top right of the screen.
 
If you add a friend to the restricted list under share settings, they will no longer be able to view your posts. However, if later on you want to allow them to view your posts again, you can do so by following the steps below:
 
1. From the Share settings screen, tap the Restricted tab.
2. Tap Unrestrict next to the friends you want to allow to view your posts.
3. Tap Save at the top right of the screen.

Getting notified of friends' Timeline posts toggle
​If a new post is added on Timeline while the LINE app is in use, you will see a notification mark appear on the Timeline tab.

Hiding Timeline posts from new friends toggle
By default, Timeline and Home posts are automatically made visible to newly added friends. To change this, please follow the steps below.

1. Go to the More tab.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Timeline.
4. Uncheck “Allow New Friends.”

Hiding Timeline posts from specific friends toggle
Your friends' posts will appear on your Timeline.

If you do not want to see posts from certain friends, please refer to the steps below to hide them.

1. Tap the V icon on post of the friend you wish to hide.
2. Tap Hide Posts from this poster.

Please note the following:
- If you have set to hide posts from a friend, all of their posts will be removed and newer post will not appear on your Timeline.
- Friends will not be notified when you hide them.

To unhide a friend and their posts, tap More > Settings > Timeline > Timeline Hidden List, then tap Show.

Can other people see my posts on Timeline? toggle
If both you and a user added each other as friends on LINE, you will be able to see each other's posts on Timeline. However, posts on Timeline will not be visible to either user if only one of you has added the other as a friend.
Note: If you make a post on Timeline and set it to Public, your friends as well as other users who are not your friend will be able to view it.

Be sure to configure your Privacy Settings if you do not want a post to be viewed by certain friends. To hide your posts on Timeline from friends you add in the future, turn OFF the setting for Allow New Friends.

Hiding groups and friends from My Groups on Timeline toggle
In More > Settings > Groups, you will see all groups and friends you have used the notes or albums features with in 1-on-1 chats or groups. You can also manage these groups by tapping the groups icon at the top right of your Timeline.

To hide a group from this list, tap the three dots at the top right of the My Groups page and select it. You cannot hide friends from My Groups.

Friends' Timeline posts stopped showing up toggle
If your friend’s Timeline posts have stopped showing up, the following reasons may be possible.

• You blocked the friend.
• Your friend blocked you.
• Your friend was added to your Timeline Hidden List.
• Your friend configured their privacy settings to hide posts from you.

If you have signed up for a new account, please ask your friend to check their privacy settings.

If you have blocked your friend or added them to your Timeline Hidden List, you can see their Timeline posts again by unblocking or unhiding them.

Human silhouette icon at top-right of Timeline posts toggle
The audience of a Timeline post can be limited using privacy settings. The human silhouette icon on a Timeline post means that only some users can see the post.

By tapping the icon, you can go to the note in the 1-on-1 or group chat that it is visible to.

A post that was only set to share with specific friends on Timeline appears on my Home toggle
Posts you set to share with specific friends and yourself will also appear on your Home. However, the content of those posts will only appear on your device.

When you set the privacy settings for a post, it will not appear for friends whom you have not selected to share with or have set to Hidden in the Timeline privacy settings. Posts set to Only Me will not be visible to anyone but yourself.

Users who are not your friend on LINE, as well as users you have specified to hide a Timeline post from will only be able to see posts set to Public when they visit your Home.

I'm seeing posts from users besides my friends when searching with hashtags toggle
Since anyone can view a post that has been set to Public, posts from users who are not your friends can be searched on your Timeline.

Please note that posts that were set to Public can be shared by your friends.

Share a post with certain friends toggle
When you make a Timeline or Home post, you can limit the audience by selecting a group or creating a share list.

Note: If you restricted a friend from viewing your Timeline posts, you will not be able to add them to a share list. 

If you wish to add a restricted friend to a share list for a Timeline post, please remove them from the Restricted list of users from the Share Settings beforehand by referring to the following Help article:


To create a share list, please follow the steps below:

1. Tap Friends (Public, or Only Me) at the top of the relevant post.

The following steps will differ depending on whether a share list was created or not.

If a share list was not created
2. Tap Add.
3. From the Friends or Groups tab, select the friends you wish to add to the share list and tap OK.
4. In the New List field, enter a name of your choosing and tap Save.

If a share list has already been created
2. Select a previously created list under Share List.
3. Tap OK at the top right of the screen.

The newest posts don't appear first on my Timeline toggle
You can configure the settings of your Timeline to display posts in order of most recent, most popular, etc. 

To have your Timeline display posts in order of most recent, please refer to the following steps:

1. Tap More > Settings > Timeline.
2. Switch Show popular posts first OFF.

After the relay period has ended, only the posting feature becomes unavailable.  You can still see the posts that were made during the relay period.

You can change the relay period settings by tapping the person icon on the top of the relay creation screen.

The Basics

Difference Between Timeline and Home toggle

The Timeline and Home are places where you can communicate with other users.

Timeline
From the Timeline page, you can see text messages, images, videos, stickers, and other activity from your friends and yourself in real time.


You can also Like or comment on your friends’ posts on the Timeline, or reply to comments to your posts.

Home
The Home is a personal space where only your Timeline posts are displayed.

Your friends can visit your Home and Like or comment on your posts. You can also visit your friends’ Homes.
 

Posts on your Home are also visible on the Timeline, so your friends will be able to see them. If you do not want your friends to view a certain post, please refer to the Help article below.

 

Visibility of Timeline posts to others

 

Please note that users who are not your friends can visit your Home from hashtag search results. Only posts set to Public can be viewed by users who are not your friends.

Devices that can access your Timeline and Home toggle
Your Timeline and Home can be accessed on the smartphone version of LINE with devices running iOS or Android OS, as well as the Windows and Mac desktop LINE applications and LINE TIMELINE for web browsers on PC.

On the Windows Phone version of LINE, they can also be accessed using Windows 10 or Windows 7 or 8.
Note: If you are using Windows 7 or 8, you must use LINE version 4.0.0 or later.

Viewing a friend's Home toggle
You can visit a friend’s Home using any one of the following methods.

- Tap the friend’s name on your friends list, then Home.
- Tap the friend’s icon in a chat, then Home.
- Tap the friend’s name or icon on the Timeline.
- Tap the friend’s name or icon in a comment or Like they left on your Home.

Other Settings

How to change your Home photo toggle
You can customize your Home and give it more personality by setting a Home photo.
Note: The large image at the top of your Home is your Home photo.

To change your Home photo, please refer to the following steps:

1. Tap More > Profile > Home.
2. Tap the Home photo.
3. Select either Take a Home Photo or Choose a Home Photo.



If you select Take a Home Photo, the camera app will start. Take a photo on the spot and set it as your Home photo. You may need to crop the photo before it can be used. When cropping, you can zoom into but not out of the photo.

If you select Choose a Home Photo, you can set a photo that is saved on your device or an external storage. You may need to crop the photo before it can be used.

Turning off device notifications toggle
You can turn off notifications sent to your device about Timeline activity using the steps below.

1. Go to the More tab > Settings > Notifications.
2. Configure the settings for Timeline Notification.



Even with notifications turned off, you can still check new activity on your Timeline posts by tapping the bell icon at the top of the Timeline.

Disabling profile and cover photo update posts toggle
To disable Timeline posts about changes to your profile, please refer to the steps below:

1. Tap More > Settings > Profile.
2. Turn off Share Profile Media Updates.


Please be aware that Timeline posts about changes to your Home photo cannot be disabled. Please delete these posts instead.

I found something inappropriate on Timeline toggle
If you find something inappropriate on Timeline, you can report the user who posted it from the Timeline screen.
Note: If you report someone, they won't be notified that you did so.

To report a post:
1. Tap the "..." icon on the top right of the post you want to report.
2. Tap Report.
3. Select your reason for reporting the post, then tap Agree & send.

To report a comment:
1. Swipe left on the comment you want to report.
2. Tap Report.
3. Select your reason for reporting the comment, then tap Agree & send.
