The Basics

How do I start a chat? toggle
There are two ways to start a chat.

1. On your Friends list, double-click the person you want to chat with.
2. On your Friends list, control+click (right-click) the person you want to chat with then click Chat.

To start a multi-person chat:
1. Click "..." > Start chat.
2. Choose the friends you want to chat with.
3. Click Add.

1. Click Chat.
2. Control+click (right-click) the chat you want to delete.
3. Click Delete.

How can I save chat messages? toggle
To save a chat, please follow the steps below.

1. Click Chats.
2. Double-click the chat you want to save.
3. Click the options icon at the top right of the screen.
4. Click Save Chat.

Please note this will only save the chat of the chat room that is currently displayed.

How do I keep a chat window on top? toggle
To keep a chat window on top, please follow the steps below.

1. Click Chats.
2. Double-click the chat room you want to keep on top.
3. Click the options button at the top of the screen.
4. Click Keep Window on Top.

Can I only view chats with unread messages? toggle
You can bring chats with unread messages to the top using the following steps.

1. Go to the Chats tab.
2. Click the button on the right of the message search box.

Can I take screenshots? toggle
Steps to take and send a screenshot:

1. Go to the Chats tab.
2. Double-click on the friend you want to send the screenshot to.
3. Click the screenshot icon above the text entry field.
4. Drag to select the area of the screenshot, then click the check mark.
5. Press Enter or Alt+Enter.

You can send up to 20 screenshots at a time. To cancel taking a screenshot, press the Esc key.

If the screenshot icon is grayed out, like it is for official accounts, that means the feature is not available.

What is Auto-Suggest Stickers? toggle
Auto-Suggest Stickers is a feature that gives you suggestions for relevant stickers or emoji as you type words into a chat room. Default stickers, emoji and some paid stickers will appear as suggestions.

This feature is available for Japanese, Korean, English, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Thai.

Please follow the steps below for setting auto-suggestion and to download languages.

Set Auto-Suggest
1. Click the settings icon at the top of the screen > Settings.
2. Click Chats.
3. Check the box for Enable Auto-Suggest.

Download languages
1. Click the settings icon at the top of the screen > Settings.
2. Click Chats.
3. Under Language, click the arrow button next to the language you wish to download.

Once downloaded, the language will appear in the Language list.

How to change the key to send a message toggle
To change the key assigned to send a message:

1. Click the settings icon at the bottom of the screen.
2. Click Settings > Chats.
3. Under Send Key, select your preferred settings.

How to insert a line break toggle
Depending on your chat settings, the way to insert a line break will vary.

Check your current chat settings and try either of the methods below. For steps on how to check your chat settings, see this Help article.

To insert a line break:
• If the Enter key is set as your Send Key: press Shift + Enter
• If Alt + Enter are set as your Send Key: press Enter

About the Convert to text feature toggle
This feature uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to convert writing in chat images to text. It also lets you translate the converted text and share it with other chats, on Timeline, or via Notes.

You can use the Convert to text feature via any of the methods below:
• Right-click the image with the writing you want to convert > select Convert to text.
• Click "T" (the text conversion icon) in the "Capture screen" editing menu.
• Click "T" (the text conversion icon) at the bottom right of the image viewer.

After you've converted the writing in a chat image into text, you can translate it by following the steps below.

1. Select the original language from the drop-down box on the left, and the target language from the drop-down box on the right.
2. Click Translate.

The following languages can be set as original or target languages.

Original languages: Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), English, Indonesian, Japanese, and Korean
Note:
- Currently, only horizontal Japanese can be recognized. We plan to make vertical Japanese available as an original language in the future.
- Thai is also planned to be added at a later date.

Target languages: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), English, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese
Note: Depending on the original language in the image, the number of translatable languages may differ.

Click the Forward icon at the bottom of the text conversion screen to share the content with other chats, on Timeline, or via Notes.

About the Scan QR code feature toggle
This feature lets you scan images of QR codes sent in chats and access their URLs.

You can use the Scan QR code feature via any of the methods below:
• Right-click the image you want to scan > select Scan QR code.
• Click "-" (the QR code scan icon) in the "Capture screen" editing menu.
• Click "-" (the QR code scan icon) at the bottom right of the image viewer.

After you've scanned a QR code, you can access the link by clicking the Go to URL icon at the bottom of the screen that appears. Clicking the Forward icon lets you share the content with other chats, on Timeline, or via Notes.

Translating chats toggle
To translate chat messages: 
1. Open a chat and right-click the message you want to translate.
2. Click Translate.
3. Select the original language from the drop-down box on the left, and the target language from the drop-down box on the right.
4. Click Translate.
Note: If the original language in step 3 is set to "Detected", the original language will be automatically detected.

Chat messages can be translated to and from the following languages: 
Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), English, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese
Note: Depending on the original language, the number of translatable languages may differ.

Clicking the Forward icon at the bottom of the translation screen lets you share the content with other chats, on Timeline, or via Notes.

1. Click "..." > Settings.
2. Click Notifications.
3. Uncheck "Notify by Sound."

Posts

What are posts? toggle
Posts is a message board feature that can be used by group members.
If there is important information that group members should know, you can post it along with stickers, images, videos and URLs. You can also post albums with lots of pictures.

Leave messages on the group board over real time chats, so no one misses out on anything important!

How do I create a post? toggle
Posts is a basic feature that can be used among group members. You can use posts when you are part of a group. When a member creates a post, it creates a new message board post.

If you are not currently in a group, please create one first and invite your friends.

How can I view group posts? toggle
Please use one of the following methods to view group posts.

1. From your Friends list, click the image of the group's post you wish to view. After the group profile appears, click the Posts or Albums button.
2. Click the Post button at the top left of the group chat room. 
3. Click the menu button at the top right of the Timeline screen, then click the icon of the group you wish to view.

How do I share text with other group members? toggle
Please use one of the following methods to share text with other group members.

From Your Friends List
1. From your Friends list, click the image of the group you wish share with.
2. Click the Post button underneath the group profile picture.
3. Click the pencil icon.

From Your Chats List
1. From the Chats list, double-click the group chat you wish to share with.
2. Click the Post button at the top of the chat room.
3. Click the pencil icon.

From the Timeline
1. Click the pencil icon at the top of the Timeline.
2. On the Post screen, click My LINE Friends.
3. On the Privacy Settings for Posts screen, select the group you wish to share with and click OK.

What kind of Posts can I post? toggle
You can attach stickers, images, videos, and URLs to group posts. 

NOTE:
- You can attach up to 20 stickers, images or videos per post at any one time.
- You can only attach one URL to a post at any one time.
- You cannot attach sound or animation stickers with a basic sticker at the same time. Only one sound or animation sticker can be attached per post.

Can I edit or delete a post? toggle
Please see the following steps to edit or delete a post. You can only edit or delete posts that you created.

To edit a post
1. Click o the post you wish to edit.
2. Click the V at the top right of the screen.
3. Click Edit.
4. After editing, click Done.
Currently only text can be edited.

To delete a post
1. Click on the post you wish to delete.
2. Click on the V at the top right of the screen.
3. Click Delete then Delete again.

Can my friends on LINE see my group posts on my Timeline? toggle
Group posts that appear on your Timeline are only visible to other group members.

Please be assured that friends who are not group members will not be able to see the post.

Can I add pictures to posts I've made in the past? toggle
Unfortunately, you cannot add images to posts you have made in the past. If you frequently update images, we suggest using the Albums feature instead.

With Albums, you can add images after posting the album.

Albums

How do I save a picture that was posted to an album? toggle
To save a picture that was posted to an album, please follow the steps below.

1. Go to the Group page.
2. Click Albums.
3. Click the desired album.
4. Click the picture you want to save.
5. Click Save.

If you want to save all of the pictures, after clicking the desired album in Step 3 click Save All.

How do I add a new picture to an album? toggle
To add a new picture to an album, please follow the steps below.

From Groups
1. Go to Friends > click on the relevant group image.
2. Click the Album button.
3. Click Settings on the right side of the Album's name.
4. Click Add Photos.

From 1-on-1 Chats
1. Go to Chats > double-click the relevant friend's chat room.
2. Click the post button at the top left.
3. Click Settings on the right side of the Album's name.
4. Click Add Photos.

How do I delete an album? toggle
You can delete an album by following the steps below.
Anyone that is a member can delete an album. Please be very careful, as once an album is deleted, it cannot be restored.

Deleting a Group Album
1. Go to Friends > click on the relevant group's picture.
2. Click the Album button.
3. Click Settings on the right side of the Album's name.
4. Click Delete Album.

Deleting a 1-on-1 Album
1. Go to Chats > double-click the relevant friend's chat room.
2. Click the post button at the top left.
3. Click the Album menu.
4. Click Settings on the right side of the Album's name.
5. Click Delete Album.

How do I delete a picture in an album? toggle
You can delete a picture in an album by following the steps below.
Please note, that if a user is a member of a 1-on-1 or group chat, anyone can delete a post.

NOTE:
- Posts that are deleted can not be restored.
- If someone deletes a post, a message will appear in the chat room to say that person deleted the post.

Group album
1. Go to Friends > click on the relevant group's picture.
2. Click the Album button.
3. Click the picture you want to delete.
4. Click Delete.

1-on-1 chat album
1. Go to Chats > double-click the relevant friend's chat room.
2. Click the post button at the top left.
3. Click the Album menu.
4. Double-click the picture you want to delete.
5. Click Delete.

How do I rename an album? toggle
You can rename an album by following the steps below.

Group album
1. Go to Friends > click on the relevant group's picture.
2. Click the Album button.
3. Click Settings on the right side of the album name.
4. Click Rename Album.

1-on-1 chat album
1. Go to Chats > double-click the relevant friend's chat room.
2. Click the post button at the top left.
3. Click the Album menu.
4. Click Settings on the right of the album name you want to rename.
5. Click Rename Album.

Please note the album name must be between 1-20 characters, and you cannot have albums with the same name.

Is there a limit to the number of albums I can post? toggle
The following restrictions apply to Albums.

- You can create a maximum of 100 albums per chat room.
- You can post a maximum of 1000 photos per album.

Keep

What is Keep? toggle
Keep is a personal storage service which allows you to upload and save chats (text), images, videos and voice messages. 
You can also upload files saved on a PC and share them with your friends. 

Files saved on Keep can easily be seen on your PC or smartphone (Android and iOS only, LINE version 5.3.0 or later).

Storage capacity is limited to 1GB, however files larger than 50MB can only be saved for a 30 day period. Please note that image files over 20MB cannot be uploaded.

How to view your stored files toggle
You can view your files stored in Keep with one of the following methods:
- Click the Keep icon from the main menu.
- Click the "" icon > Keep.
- From the main menu, click the Friend icon > then click the Keep icon to the right of your name.

To check how much space you’re using: 
1. Click the "" icon > Settings.
2. On the left side of the screen, click Keep.

How long will the files be saved? toggle
Storage capacity on Keep is limited to 1GB, with an unlimited storage period. However, files larger than 50MB can only be saved for a 30 day period. Image files over 20MB cannot be uploaded.

If a file is over 50MB, a D-29 icon will appear next to it on the file listing. As each day passes, the number will count down. The file cannot be opened 30 days after the file has been saved.

I can't upload files toggle
If you cannot upload files, please check the following:

- Check if you are over Keep's storage capacity of 1GB. Please allow for sufficient storage space in order to use Keep. 
- Check whether the image file size is larger than 20GB or if the image quality is over 10,000 × 10,000 pixels. If the image exceeds those specifications, you will not be able to upload the file.

Letter Sealing

What is Letter Sealing? toggle
Letter Sealing is a feature that provides End-to-end encryption (E2EE) for chat room messages. E2EE is a communication system designed so that messages saved on our servers are encrypted and cannot be read by anyone except the sender and receiver of the message.

Once the sender and receiver have both turned on Letter Sealing, they will be able to start sending messages, but with added security.

If you use the PC version of LINE after turning on Letter Sealing, you will be required to verify your identity the first time you send a message.

To verify your identity, please refer to the Help article below.


To use Letter Sealing, please update LINE to version 5.3.0 or later via the link below.

How do I use Letter Sealing on the PC version of LINE? toggle
If you have turned on Letter Sealing and try to send a message on the PC version of LINE, you will have to verify your identity.

To verify your identity, please refer to the following steps. Please note you will need your smartphone on hand to complete the following.

1. Log in to the PC version of LINE.
2. Go to the Chats tab and open a chat window.
3. Click Verify your identity to reveal a 6 digit verification code.
4. The screen to verify your identity will appear on the smartphone version of LINE.
5. Enter the 6 digit verification code from the PC version of LINE.

The screen to verify my identity for Letter Sealing is not appearing toggle
When verifying your identity on the PC version LINE, if the screen to enter the verification code for Letter Sealing does not appear on the smartphone version of LINE, please try the following.

1. Start the smartphone version of LINE.
2. Go to Settings > Chats & Voice Calls.
3. Turn Letter Sealing OFF, then turn it back on again.

Afterwards, please refer to the following Help article and try verifying your identity once again.

When verifying your identity on the PC version of LINE, if the screen to enter the verification code for Letter Sealing does not appear on the smartphone version of LINE, please try the following:

3. Turn Letter Sealing OFF, then turn it back ON again.

Afterwards, please refer to the following Help article and try verifying your identity once again.

Poll

How to create polls toggle
To create a poll, please see the following steps:

1. Open a group or multi-person chat.
2. Click the menu icon at the top right of the chat window > Poll.

If you have created polls in the same chat before:
3. Click Create poll at the bottom of the list.

How can I participate in a poll? toggle
When a poll is created, a notification message will appear in the chat room. For group chats, it will also be automatically added in Notes.

You can view old polls by clicking the menu icon at the top right of the chat window > Poll. For group chats, you can also check old polls in Notes.

What kind of polls can I create? toggle
On the poll creation screen, select Text to enter your own options. You can also create poll options using your own text and images.

Select the Date tab to create poll options for different dates. You can also allow users to vote anonymously and to select multiple options.

Editing polls toggle
Only the creator of an existing poll can edit the contents if no one has voted on it. It can no longer be edited once users have answered it.

Any member of the chat room can add more options to a poll.

What happens when a poll ends? toggle
A message will appear in the chat room announcing that the poll has closed once the set closing date has ended, or if the creator of the poll chooses to end it.
