Logging in and out

Logging in to the PC version of LINE toggle
You can log in to the PC version of LINE with the following methods:


Note: You can only log in with a phone number if you signed up from the PC version of LINE.

How do I log out of the PC version of LINE? toggle
To log out of the PC version of LINE, please follow the steps below: 

1. Click the cogwheel icon.
Note: For the Chrome version of LINE, click the down arrow next to LINE on the top of the screen.
2. Click Log out.

If you are logged in to the PC version of LINE with an account you created on the smartphone app, you can also log out from the smartphone version by following the steps below: 

1. Tap More > Settings.
2. Tap Account > Devices.
3. Tap Log out.

LINE has just logged me out. Why is this? toggle
You may be logged out automatically from the PC or Windows 8 versions of LINE under the following circumstances:

1. If you log into the PC or Windows 8 version of LINE from another device.
2. If you change your email address or password from the smartphone version of LINE.
3. If you log out using the Device Manager on the smartphone version of LINE.
4. If you delete your account using the smartphone version of LINE.
5. If a network error or a system failure occurs.
6. If the app remains unused for a given amount of time.

I see a verification code to verify my identity toggle
We have added enhanced security to prevent unauthorized logins from the PC version of LINE.

If you see a verification code when you log in to the PC version of LINE, you will need it to verify your identity on the smartphone version of LINE.

Please follow the steps below on your smartphone.

1. Star the PC version of LINE.
2. Enter your email address and password and click Login.
3. A 4 digit verification code will appear.
4. Start the smartphone version of LINE and enter the verification code that appears on the PC version of LINE.

Logging in with an email address

What should I do if I forgot my password? toggle
The steps differ depending on the type of device you are using LINE on.

If you signed up for your account from the PC version of LINE
Reset your password by following the steps below:

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click Reset Password on the bottom of the login screen.
3. Enter your registered email address and click OK.

If you don't receive the password reset email, see here.

If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE
Please reset your password from the smartphone version of the app.


You can also reset your password from the PC version of LINE by following the steps below: 
1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click Reset Password on the bottom of the login screen.
3. Enter your registered email address and click OK.

Logging in automatically toggle
On the Windows and Mac versions of LINE, you can log in automatically without having to enter your email address and password every time.
Note: Use this on your own PC to protect your personal information.

On the login screen, check the Log me in automatically option or follow the steps below:

1. Log in from the PC version of LINE.
2. Click the settings icon > Settings.
3. Click Basic > check the box for Log me in automatically under Login Settings.

I'm not receiving the password reset email toggle
Please check the following if you are not receiving the password reset email:

- Is your registered email address entered correctly?
- Did you enter an email address different from your registered one?
- Are you trying to send the password reset email repeatedly within a short period of time?

Note: You may not be able to receive the password reset email properly if you repeatedly sent a request for it. Please wait over 24 hours before sending a request again.

- Has the email been delivered to your spam, junk, or other folders?
- Do you have spam filters in place that block emails with URLs or that were sent from a PC? If so, please disable them.
- Do you have settings in place to only receive emails from certain domains? If so, please add “line.me” to your list of accepted domains.

- Does the email address you are using comply to RFC standards? 

The following are examples of email addresses that do not comply to RFC standards:

- Addresses with a dot (.) right before the @ symbol: abcd.@xxx.com
- Addresses with consecutive dots (.): ab..cd@xxx.com
- Addresses that begin with a hyphen (-): -abcd@xxx.com

How can I log into my account if my email address is not available? toggle
If you are unable to use your email address and password, you will not be able to log in using an email address. However, if you are using the the smartphone version of LINE, you can log in to your account using either of the following methods:

Logging in with an email address toggle
To log in to the PC version of LINE using an email address, you must first register an email address on the device that you normally use LINE on.

See here for the steps to register an email address.

After registering your email address, please try the steps below.
Note: If you haven't already installed the PC version of LINE, you can download it here.

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click Email Login.
3. Enter your registered email address and password, then choose Login.

Registering an email address toggle
The steps to register an email address differ depending on the type of device you are using LINE on.

If you signed up for your account from the PC version of LINE
You can change your email address by following the steps below.

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Log in with your phone number.
3. Click the cogwheel icon > Settings.
Note: For the Chrome version of LINE, click the down arrow next to LINE on the top of the screen.
4. Click Basic > Register Email.
5. Enter the email address you want to register, then click Next.
6. Enter the verification code sent to your email address, then click Next.

If you cannot log in to the PC version of LINE with your phone number, you won't be able to register an email address.

If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE
You cannot register an email address from the PC version of LINE. Please register a email address on the smartphone version of the app.

I forgot my registered email address toggle
The steps to check your email address differ depending on the type of device you're using.

If you signed up for your account from the PC version of LINE
You can check your email address with the following steps:

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Log in with your phone number.
3. Click the settings icon > Settings.
4. Click Basic > your email address will appear next to Email.

If you can't log into the PC version of LINE with your phone number, you will not be able to check your email address.

If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE
You will not be able to check your email address from the PC version of LINE if you can’t log in to it. In this case, please check your email address from the smartphone version of LINE.

Logging in with a QR code

How do I log in with a QR code? toggle
If you have not registered an email address with LINE, you can log in to the PC version of LINE by scanning a QR code.

To log in to the PC version of LINE with a QR code, please follow the steps below.

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click QR Code Login.
3. On the smartphone version of LINE, go to More > Add Friends > QR Code.
4. Scan the QR code that appears on the PC version of LINE.
5. Tap Login.

You will be logged in once the "Login Successful!" message appears.

It says that my QR Code is invalid. What shall I do? toggle
If your QR code is no longer valid, click the arrow icon to generate a new one to log in.

Logging in with a phone number

Can I log in with my phone number if I forgot my password? toggle
If you registered an email address after making a new account on the PC version of LINE, you can reset your password. 

Please refer to the following Help article to reset your password:


If you did not register an email address to your account, you will not be able to reset your password. In this case, please make a new account.

Logging in with a phone number toggle
If you're using an account that you signed up for on the PC version of LINE, you can log in using your phone number with the following steps:

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. From the login screen, click Phone Number Login.
3. Select your country code, then enter your phone number and password > click Login.

You will not be able to log in with your phone number if you signed up using the smartphone version of LINE. In this case, please log in using your email address or QR code.

Login errors

I get an error when I enter my email address or password toggle
If you see an error after entering your email address or password when logging in to the PC version of LINE, it’s possible you may have accidentally entered the wrong information.

Please try the following to make sure there are no mistakes with your login information and try logging in once again.

1. Enter your email address and password on a notepad app and make sure:
• There are no extra spaces
• Everything was entered in half-width characters
• Characters were entered correctly as letters are case sensitive
2. Copy the email address and password you entered on a notepad app.
3. Start the PC version of LINE and paste your email address and password into their respective fields, then log in.

If you are unable to resolve the issue with the above information, it’s possible the login information you entered is different from the actual information registered with your LINE account.

If you registered an email address on the smartphone version of LINE, you can check it by referring to the following Help article relevant to your device.
Important: Users who made an account by signing up from the PC version of LINE will not be able to check or change their email address before logging in.


If you’re still unable to log in with the correct email address, it’s possible you may have accidentally entered the wrong password. In this case, please refer to the following Help article to change your password:

Logging in and performance issues toggle
If you are having logging in or performance issues, first check which version of LINE you can use on your PC here, then try the following:

Windows and Mac version of LINE
• Uninstall the PC or Mac version of LINE and then reinstall it.
• Restart your computer. 
• Temporarily disable any firewalls or security software you have in place or allow LINE to connect to the internet.
• Disable any resident or customization software such as WindowsBlinds.

Windows 10 version of LINE
• Update the Windows 10 version of the LINE app.
• Restart your PC.
• Temporarily disable any firewalls or security software you have in place or allow LINE to connect to the internet.
• Disable any resident or customization software such as WindowsBlinds.

Chrome version of LINE
• Uninstall the Chrome version of LINE and then reinstall it.
• Update the Chrome browser.
Note: If you're using Chrome OS, please also try updating the OS.
• Disable background internet connected apps and extensions.
• Delete your cache and browsing history.

I got an error regarding the Allow Login setting toggle
If you encounter an error related to the Allow Login setting when logging in to the PC version of LINE, please turn this setting ON from your smartphone.

1. Go to More > tap Settings > Account.
2. Turn the Allow Login setting ON.

If you see an error that says "Unable to login due to network issues." when logging in to the PC version of LINE, it is possible you do not have a stable network connection.

Why did a phone number/password error appear? toggle
If you see a phone number/password error when logging in to the PC version of LINE, you may have accidentally entered the wrong information.

Check the following to make sure there are no mistakes with your login information and try logging in once again.
Note: You can only log in using your phone number if you signed up for LINE on PC.

If you signed up for LINE on a smartphone, you can log in using your email address or QR code.

1. Enter your phone number and password in a notepad app.
Make sure:
- There are no extra spaces.
- Everything was entered in half-width characters.
- Characters were entered correctly (letters are case sensitive).

2. Copy the phone number and password you entered.
3. Start the PC version of LINE and paste your phone number and password into their respective fields, then log in.

If you’re still unable to log in with the steps above, it’s possible your password was entered incorrectly.

If you’re using the Windows or Mac version of LINE, click the icon next to the password field after entering your password to display it and make sure it’s correct.
