To use LINE Money, you need to verify your identity with your smartphone, which you can do by following the steps below.
Note: If you received a chat message from the LINE Wallet (LINEウォレット) official account requesting a regular update of your personal information, you can also update it by following these steps.
1. Open LINE and tap the Wallet tab > LINE Pay.
2. Tap Settings > Balance Types and Limits.
3. Tap Verify ID next to Limits after identity verification.
Note:
- Tap here to go to LINE Pay identity verification from your smartphone.
- If you haven’t set a passcode, you need to set one after agreeing to the Terms of Use.
- Your identity verification request will be canceled if you unsuccessfully try to transfer your LINE account (e.g. after changing devices).
- Use the latest version of LINE to verify your identity with your smartphone.
- This option may not be available on some devices.
Acceptable forms of identification
You need to use one of the photo IDs listed below for verifying your identity with your smartphone.
Note: We cannot accept your application without one, so make sure to have one ready before applying.
For Japanese citizens or Special Permanent Residents:
• Driver's license
• Driving history certificate (運転経歴証明書)
• My Number (Individual Number) Card
Note:
- Individual Number notification cards are not accepted.
- If you're verifying your identity with your My Number Card, you can either use the Touch to verify (by scanning the card's IC chip) or the Take photos to verify options.
• Special permanent resident certificate
Important: As of November 24, 2022, we no longer accept Japanese passports.
For foreign residents (16 or over):
You need to apply with your residence card so that we can confirm your period of stay and other details. (This does not apply to Special Permanent Residents.)
Note:
- If your period of stay will end soon, we may not be able to accept your application.
- Even if you have a My Number Card, you cannot use the Touch to verify option (by scanning the card's IC chip).
Taking a photo of the side of your ID to show its thickness
• Place your ID on a flat surface, such as a floor or table, with its front facing up.
Note: Please take the photo with a single dark color as the background.
• Tilt your smartphone so that the corners of your ID align with the four corners of the outline shown on the camera screen.
• When your ID matches the outline, the corners of the outline will turn green and the photo will be taken automatically.
• Confirm that the thickness of the lower part of your ID appears clearly in the photo.
Note: Under some usage conditions, a different method for taking the photo may be shown. If so, follow the on-screen instructions to take the photo.
After you've finished verifying your identity with your smartphone
You'll receive a notification from the LINE Pay identity verification (LINE Pay本人確認) account. You'll then be able to send money and use the other LINE Money features.
