Adding money
If you're not receiving the verification code sent via text message with the LINE app, try the following troubleshooting tips.
• Check your mobile service provider's settings for receiving text messages. If any blocking settings have been applied, disable them temporarily and try again.
• Check your carrier's setting for receiving international text messages and, turn it on if it is switched off.
If you're still not receiving the verification code via text after trying the suggestions above, please contact us via this Inquiry Form.
Repeatedly failing to verify your identity via text message
If you've repeatedly failed to verify your account via text message and your account was locked, please contact LINE Pay Customer Care. Prepare one of the acceptable documents for verifying your identity listed in the following Help article and contact us via this Inquiry Form.

About the linked bank account service (needed for adding money from a bank account)
Note:
- As of January 6, 2025, you can no longer verify your identity with your smartphone.
- If you didn't verify your identity, you will not be able to link a bank account or add money to your balance from it.
It may take up to a week for your identity verification to be approved. Please understand that you cannot add money to your LINE Pay balance from your bank account until this verification has been completed.
To add money to your LINE Pay balance from a bank account, follow the steps below.
Note: If you haven't set a LINE Pay passcode, you need to set one after agreeing to the Terms of Use.
1. From the LINE Pay main menu, tap "+" > Bank Accounts.
2. Select the bank account that you want to use.
3. Enter an amount and tap Add Money.
4. Enter your LINE Pay passcode.
If you don't have sufficient funds in your bank account, the money will fail to be added and a message will appear in Notifications (the bell icon) at the top of the LINE Pay main menu.

The Pay bill feature has a limit of up to JPY 300,000 per tax or other government fee payment (not including utility bills) or up to JPY 49,999 per other bill payment. There is no per month limit to the feature.

- As of September 16, 2020, temporary restrictions have been placed on registering bank accounts and adding money to LINE Pay for some banks. If you see a message saying that service has been restricted when trying to add money, please use a different method.
- For information on which banks are subject to restrictions and other details, see Linking bank accounts and adding money to LINE Pay accounts temporarily suspended for some banks on LINE Pay's official blog. (Only available in Japanese.)
If you're having issues adding money from your bank account, it may be because:
• You tried during a time when money cannot be added.
You cannot add money when your bank or LINE Pay is undergoing maintenance. You can check maintenance times by going to the LINE Pay main menu > Settings > Notifications.
• The registration process for your bank account had not yet been completed.
With some banks, it can take several business days until you can add money after registering an account.
Note:
- Due to enhanced security, you need to verify your identity with your smartphone when linking a bank.
- As of January 6, 2025, you can no longer verify your identity with your smartphone. If you didn't verify your identity, you will not be able to link a bank account or add money to your LINE Pay balance from it.
• The amount you tried to add was more than the daily limit or less than the minimum amount that can be added.
The limits for adding money from a bank account vary depending on your account usage. To see the current limits for your account, go to the LINE Pay main menu > Settings > Balance Types and Limits.
• Your bank cannot be used with LINE Pay.

• You haven't verified your identity with your smartphone.
As of January 6, 2025, you can no longer verify your identity with your smartphone. If you didn't verify your identity, you will not be able to link a bank account or add money to your LINE Pay balance from it.
There may also be a time lag of several minutes until your money is added. After adding money, make sure you're using a strong internet connection and check to see if the money was transferred after waiting a short time.
If you can't add money from a Japan Post Bank account that was already linked to LINE Pay:
If you tried adding money to LINE Pay from Wednesday, January 13, 2021 or later but weren't able to despite having a sufficient bank account balance, it's possible your bank account was unlinked from the Japan Post Bank side. In this case, delete your bank account and link it to LINE Pay again after referring to the following Help articles.

If you have a LINE Money account, the limits for how much you can use will depend on whether you see the Adjust limit section when you go to the LINE Pay main menu and tap Settings > Balance Types and Limits.
If the Adjust limit section doesn't appear on the Balance Types and Limits screen:
You can only use up to the limit displayed, and cannot raise it.
If the Adjust limit section appears on the Balance Types and Limits screen:
You can separately raise your limits for adding or withdrawing money by turning the settings for each of these features on.
Note: You can turn each feature on or off, but you cannot set your own amount limits or set limits below the standard amounts.
