Touch to verify (scan My Number Card)

The following devices can be used to scan My Number Cards.

• Devices that meet the recommended system specifications for LINE Pay

• NFC enabled smartphones compatible with My Number Cards

Foreign residents (excluding those with Special Permanent Residence status), cannot apply to verify their identities using their My Number Cards. Please be sure to apply with your residence card, as we need to confirm your period of stay and other details.

Please check the following troubleshooting tips.

• Make sure you're holding your smartphone correctly over the IC chip in your My Number Card.

Note: The way to read your My Number Card with your smartphone differs depending on your device model. See this page on the Public Certification Service for Individuals portal site for the proper way to scan your My Number Card.

• Keep your smartphone close to your My Number Card until it has finished scanning.

• Do not move your My Number Card until it has finished being scanned.

• You may have an easier time scanning your My Number Card by removing any cases/sleeves from it or your smartphone.

• You may not be able to scan your My Number Card if it's on a metal desk or if metal objects are nearby.

• Remove any cables attached to your device (e.g. charging cable, wired earphones).

• If you're using an Android device, make sure the NFC or Osaifu-Keitai (おサイフケータイ) feature is turned on.

• Turn off Airplane mode.

You were asked to set the following passwords when you were issued your My Number Card.

• 4-digit identification password

• Electronic signature password (6–16 alphanumeric characters)

If you don't know your passwords, you won't be able to apply for identity verification by scanning your My Number Card.

You can opt to take photos of your My Number Card to verify your identity if you've forgotten your passwords. From the LINE Pay main menu, go to Identity verification > Japanese citizens or Special Permanent Residents > Take photos to verify, to do so.

Important: You can reset your My Number Card passwords at the municipal office where you are registered as a resident.

4-digit identification password

Your password will lock if you enter it incorrectly three times in a row (including verifying your My Number Card with other services besides LINE).

Electronic signature password (6–16 alphanumeric characters)

Your password will lock if you enter it incorrectly five times in a row (including verifying your My Number Card with other services besides LINE).

You'll be able to unlock or reset both of these passwords at the local municipal office where you're registered as a resident. Please contact your local municipal office for details.

If you see either of the following messages, it means there's an issue with the validity of your My Number Card and you will not be able to scan it to verify your identity.

• "Touch to verify" is unavailable.

• Unable to verify your identity

In these cases, please opt to take photos of your My Number Card to verify your identity. Go to Identity verification > Japanese citizens or Special Permanent Residents > Take photos to verify, to do so.

If you see an error message saying "Your signature's digital certificate may have expired because it has not been updated with the latest information (address or name) on your My Number Card," please have it checked at your local municipal office.

If there's been a change to your last name, such as by marriage, or your address after your My Number Card was issued, your signature's digital certificate may not have been updated correctly.

Please also consider using Take photos to verify if the matter is urgent.
