You can only use this feature on your main device (typically your smartphone).
Important: The contents of this article only apply to LINE accounts created with LINE versions earlier than 13.11.0 if you're not using LINE in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.
When registering or changing your phone number, or when transferring your LINE account, you need to receive a verification code via text message or a phone call. Below are common issues with receiving verification codes and their solutions.
Common reasons and solutions for not receiving the verification code
You're using a phone number or device that can't be used for verification
The following phone numbers and devices cannot be used for verification.
- Landlines
- Virtual phone numbers
- Devices using data-only SIM cards (including plans with no text message support)
- Wi-Fi only devices
- Mobile phone numbers outside the supported countries
Solution
Use a phone number that supports text messaging from a mobile service provider in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.
The phone number you entered was incorrect
Solutions
- Check the phone number you entered to make sure that there are no mistakes.
- If you entered an incorrect phone number, close the LINE app and try again.
Useful info
- The person using the phone number you entered incorrectly may receive a verification code; however, please be assured that they will not be able to misuse it to perform unauthorized actions, such as stealing your LINE account.
- Close and restart the LINE app, then try verifying with the correct phone number.
You have text message blocking or spam filters enabled
You may not receive the verification code if you have text message blocking or spam filters enabled.
Solution
- Check if you have text message blocking or spam filters enabled.
You're blocking calls from other countries or unknown phone numbers
The verification code may be sent from multiple domestic and international phone numbers. You may not receive the verification text message or phone call if you block phone numbers from other countries or unknown numbers.
Solution
Check the incoming call settings on your device.

If you're still not receiving the verification text message after checking the reasons and solutions above
You can confirm the verification code via phone call.
- Tap Call me instead at the bottom of the verification code input screen.
- Answer the call you receive on the phone number you entered.
- Enter the verification code you received via the automated on-call guidance on LINE.
Be advised
- The verification code is only valid for a certain period of time, so be sure to enter the code right after receiving it.
What to do when error messages appear
"Invalid phone number"
If you see this error message, it may be caused by one of the following issues.
You entered a phone number that cannot be used with LINE, such as a virtual number
Refer to the phone numbers that can and can't be used for verification and enter a phone number that can be registered to LINE.
The selected country or region doesn't match the phone number you entered
Re-select the country or region where the phone number you entered was issued.
You saved your phone number as a phrase in Text Replacement on an iOS device
Go to your device's Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement. If the relevant phone number (in whole or in part) was registered as a word, delete it.
"Please wait XX day(s) then try again" or "Please try again later"
These messages will appear in the following situations:
• You've exceeded the number of times for verifying a phone number.
• You've been temporarily suspended due to violating our Terms of Use.
Try again after the displayed number of days as these restrictions cannot be lifted.
"Sorry, text message verification isn't available in your country"
This error will appear if you're trying to verify a phone number in a region where phone number verification isn't available. You need a mobile phone number from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.
If the issue persists
If you've checked all of the above information but still don't receive the verification code and are unable to verify via a phone call, you will not be able to verify your phone number on LINE. Please consult with your mobile service provider or device manufacturer, or try verifying a different phone number.
