Tax information

Will income tax be withheld? toggle
As creators are exercising their copyright when selling stickers they have designed, this act is considered a taxable transaction under income tax withholding law.

The following is a summary of the taxation rates applied:

For creators residing in Japan with individual accounts
For payments of JPY 1 million or less = payment amount x 10.21%.
For payments exceeding JPY 1 million = (payment amount - JPY 1 million) x 20.42% + JPY 102,100.

For creators residing in Japan with corporate accounts
No tax (0%)

For creators residing outside Japan with individual or corporate accounts
Payments will be taxed at 20.42%, regardless of the amount.

Important: The payment amount is your revenue share BEFORE any applicable withholding taxes, money transfer fees, and/or foreign exchange fees are deducted. However, creators residing outside of Japan with individual or corporate accounts, whose country of residence has established a tax convention with Japan, may be able to receive a reduction or exemption for the amount of tax withheld, by submitting the "Application Form for Income Tax Convention" document.

Required documents

About the Application Form for Income Tax Convention toggle
Tax conventions are treaties established between Japan (the source country of income) and the country where an individual or company resides to offer tax relief and prevent tax evasion.

If you or your company reside in another country that has a tax treaty with Japan and sell stickers through Japan (the source country of income), you may be able to receive a reduction or exemption of income taxes withheld in Japan.

To have the tax convention applied, please submit two signed originals of the Application Form for Income Tax Convention document to LINE Creators Market.

Note:
- This PDF document is only available in Japanese. Please see from page 300 for details including a list of relevant countries and related tax withholding rates.
- If you submit an application and your country does not have a tax treaty with Japan, we will not be able to process it.

As of January 1, 2019, you can receive a reduction or exemption for income tax withheld if you reside in one of the countries listed below. However, you also need to submit two copies* of the Attachment Form for Limitation on Benefits Article and two copies* of a Certificate of Residency document in addition to the Application Form for Income Tax Convention.
*Note: At least one of the two copies must be the original document.

Australia, Austria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the United States

Example of a creator submitting an Application Form for Income Tax Convention:
A creator who resides in Indonesia must pay taxes in Indonesia and the 20.42% withholding tax in Japan for their LINE Creators Market sale proceeds. After submitting the Application Form for Income Tax Convention, the tax rate in Japan is reduced to 10%.
